John Clarke Williams lll
Jonathon Williams
I was raised in Hollywood by the Sea, Florida
My mother was a pianist and my father was a photographer and professional gambler. I knew I wanted to be an artist after meeting a neighbor from France who was a professional painter. I entered and won numerous awards all through school and went on to receive a BFA in Painting from The Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida.
I supported myself while pursuing my career by writing songs and singing and playing guitar in nightclubs and concerts. Somewhere along the way I got into writing documentaries and from there producing, and directing films on the Navajos in Arizona and New Mexico.
I began my professional career drawing and painting the Navajo and then my musical friends. From there it was a natural step to Jazz musicians on and off the stage. I was fortunate to have shows from the West Coast to Paris France and have been traveling and painting for the last 20 years.
Starting out I wanted to capture on canvas the feel of the people as I saw them and not as they appeared to the public. Later on while living in Italy and France the atmosphere of the streets and villages turned my art towards painting landscapes outdoors.
So now I travel, rent and meet the people around me. I soak up their laughter, their sorrow and joy, and this is “MY” truth in my art. It is what I feel and what I see, and so with my Landscapes it is as much the atmosphere and texture as it is the documentation, and with the people it is how they appear and relate to me…when we are comfortable.
I have been fortunate to have displayed in the galleries below, Thank You,
